First!

Welcome.

I never wanted a website until recently. I just didn’t have the desire to commit to something and keep it up to date. I’m not making that commitment now, either. I may make 6 posts and then forget it for 9 months while I give birth to something else.

I love the creation, but repetition tends to bore me. That’s me trying to sound fancy. What I mean is I have little follow-through. I’m a very distracted person. If I’m not innovating, I get depressed; innovation is my energy.

Have you ever thought about your brain? Is your brain who you are? They say it’s where our memories are. However, neurologists know that’s not the case. No one has ever found these so-called ‘memory traces’ in the brain [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][1]. We don’t know where memories are stored [2]. It’s a mystery. Science has many mysteries, but it doesn’t like to discuss them in polite company. So where does your ‘you’ live? Is it inside your brain, or is it elsewhere? Do you feel like you live in your brain, or outside of it?

Human consciousness fascinates me. What is base reality? Is this it? Consciousness is a dilemma. It’s not as cut and dry as some think. A study in 2014 suggests there is consciousness after the heart and brain have long ceased all activity [3]. 2% of people that were clinically dead had full awareness of everything around them while they were dead. They were later resuscitated.

I don’t think the question, “Are we alone?” is as helpful as, “How alone are we?” I’m not necessarily talking about ETs. What about other intelligent life on this planet? History is replete with mysterious visitors. Objects like the Antikythera mechanism have been found [4]. An ancient device of stunning engineering, even for today, that was built to predict the future. Who built this? It would surely have been a very useful tool for a time traveller to have.

If this universe is following a set of rules, where did those rules come from? Were they created by us, or discovered by us? The same can be said for mathematics itself. Created? Or discovered? [5] If these rules were created, who created them? Are they malleable? Can we intentionally break these rules? What happens if we do? What if the rules are simply an illusion? [6]

We live in a very mysterious world. I’d like to understand more of it. I’m a philosopher, scientist and researcher. I value the search for objective truth, which requires removing any supposed intellectual barriers, no matter the protestations of others. Exploration and discovery cannot take place in an intellectual vacuum without hitting artificial limits. The quanta, with all its spookiness, exemplifies this.

This blog will just be a place for me to store, well, memories. To think out loud. To share. I invite dialog if it remains gentlemanly. It’s also a place for me to put my predictions. I predict things occasionally. I do it for fun and to engage people in thinking outside of the media narrative. So I don’t care if I get it wrong, and you don’t need not rub it in my face when I am. 😛

Read this out loud right now: I will have a great rest-of-my-day!

Yes, you will! Thank you for spending some time with me today.
